Stay Safe on the Road by Replacing Windshield Wipers

Consider taking a look at your windshield wipers and make sure you know when and how to replace them.

Keeping your car well-maintained is an integral part of your safety, as well as your car insurance policy. Windshield wipers are not what most people think of as a key component of a car. But it is very important to have good windshield wipers to help clear away anything that can block your view while you are driving. So, consider taking a quick look at your windshield wipers today and make sure you know when and how to replace them.

Wear and Tear

Windshield wipers are an important but overlooked part of the car, and many people might have old wipers and not realize it. The fact is that windshield wipers need to be replaced every six months to a year. Because of the friction of rubbing against the windshield, the wipers wear out much faster than most components of the vehicle. If your windshield wipers look frayed or have weak or folded edges, that means they are worn out. Other signs of old wiper blades are if they leave behind significant streaking or if they make a scraping noise when turned on. Remember, windshield wipers are an important part of helping you drive safely, so don’t put off having old ones replaced.

How to Replace

There are a few different factors that go into replacing your windshield wiper blades, and that will depend on your particular vehicle. First, the price range is pretty reasonable and can be as low as ten or so dollars each to about twenty dollars or more. What you should really focus on is which type will fit your car the best, and you can probably find that information in your user manual or online. While you’re at it, don’t forget to look into the best type of wiper fluid as well. Next, windshield wipers are pretty easy to install yourself, but you should decide whether it’s worth it. Oftentimes, the place where you purchase the windshield wipers will install them for free. If you have never done it before, or have some doubts, then it’s best to let a professional make sure they’re installed perfectly. Lastly, all you need to do to care for your new wiper blades is to occasionally clean them off with a wet cloth or paper towel.
